PETAI

The Petai tree is only found growing deep in the jungle. I was surprised to find the this plant growing by the road side in the suburbs of Section 17/11 and 17/4 junction, Petaling Jaya. It is also known as twisted cluster beans or stink beans. Some claimed that it can lower the sugar level in the blood.

Can grow to great heights in the jungle.

The flower pod.

The pod burst to become stalks of the Petai fruit.

Close up of the fruit.

It is very versatile, can be eaten raw, stir fry and (above)cooked with prawn, tamarind and chilies-can be pungent and slightly bitter.
